What contests will be held at the

Spring Convention?

After 3 years of a pilot program, a total of 6 conventions, numerous surveys, hundreds of conversations and emails, and multiple board meetings, the JAD Board of Directors voted at our meeting in January to adopt the BHS contest model and eliminate gendered categories.  There was vigorous debate, and there were conflicting opinions, both on the board and in survey results.  Ultimately, the dominant factor in the decision was that convention attendees found the multiple awards too confusing, which conflicts with our goal to run the most efficient, entertaining, and enjoyable convention possible.
JAD will continue to run the Novice Quartet Contest both in the spring and in the fall to encourage participation for first-time contestants.  We will also continue to run the Small Chorus Contest for groups with 20 or fewer performers, which was overwhelmingly supported by survey responses.  â€‹
