JAD Contest Pilot Program Survey

After several town halls, interviews, and surveys, in the spring of 2022, the JAD Board of Directors initiated a 3-year pilot program to test a new contest structure for quartets and choruses. This was done in response to the changes at BHS international contests. The Board of Directors’ goal was to gather data over a multi-year period to be able to make an informed decision about the future of contests in JAD.

The specific pilot program chosen intended to replicate the “barbershop your way” aspect of our hobby in the contest. Men’s groups could compete with men’s groups, women’s groups could compete with women’s groups, and groups open to all could compete with similar groups, with an overall District Champion crowned at the end. The pilot program was supposed to measure convention attendance, contest participation, and feedback at the end of the pilot. The Board will be reviewing the data and the results of this survey at our retreat in January to make an official decision.

Please note that this survey does not concern BHS contests, only the JAD contests. BHS has decided what contests it has, but JAD is not required to follow its model.
