Start planning for Apple Corps!
Details are now available for this year's Apple Corps music education extravaganza. The event will be held June 12-15 at Kenyon College, in Gambier, Ohio. In case you missed it, this year there's even a special edition of the Cider Press that's devoted entirely to Apple Corps. It contains EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about this marvelous event.

Here's where you can download the special 2008 Apple Corps edition of the Cider Press.

Dates finalized for Leadership Team events
JAD President Mike Banish has released the final dates for all 2008 Leadership Team events. The dates do not conflict with currently approved chapter shows. The schedule and locations have been designed to maintain a level of financial restraint (i.e., trying not to spend money on unnecessary travel), so the team is using a monthly conference call with the DMT and no Friday-night meetings before HOD meetings.

Here's where you can read the complete final schedule for 2008 Leadership Team meetings.

Details now available for this summer's youth camps & festivals

  • For anyone interested in this year's Harmony Camp for high-school men and women, which will be held August 13-16 in Columbus, Ohio, details are now available on the official Harmony Camp Web site. There you can find complete information about schedules, costs, scholarships, sponsorships and directions, and forms and contact information for anyone who wants to register.

  • The Delta Kings and Southern Gateway Choruses in Cincinnati and the SAI Cincinnati Sound, in conjunction with Northern Kentucky University, are sponsoring a Barbershop Harmony a cappella music program for young women and men, June 19-21, in Greaves Concert Hall at Northern Kentucky University, about 10 minutes from downtown Cincinnati. Details, including schedules and registration information, are available on the Greater Cincinnati Harmony Festival Web site.

ASCAP fee confusion starting to clear up
There has been considerable confusion about how to make payments to ASCAP for several years. In fact, sometime in 2006 ASCAP ceased to process payments made by Society choruses. Unfortunately, after a period of time, someone within the ASCAP organization misplaced those checks and they are now gone forever.

Frank Santarelli and John Schneider have been working with ASCAP to establish procedures for dealing with ASCAP in 2008 and beyond, but if you're the chapter person responsible for paying ASCAP fees for chapter shows, you need to read this letter from John Schneider. John asks that each chapter that had a show in 2005, 2006 and 2007 review their financial records to make sure that they paid the appropriate fee(s) to ASCAP.

Here's the full letter from John Schneider explaining what you need to do.

JAD 2008 Budget & Strategic Plan available
We've added a new menu item to the left-hand menu on all SingJAD pages. Under "District," the new item is at the bottom - it's called "Admin Stuff." That link will take you to a new "Administrative Stuff" page, where you'll find documents and information of interest to those JAD members who are concerned about how the District works, how it's doing, and where it's headed. The first two items are our 2008 Budget and 2008 Strategic Plan.

Thinking about hosting/running a JAD Convention?
The 2006-2007 JAD Events Team has created a 35-page "Convention Manual" as a guide to assist those chapters interested in hosting a JAD Convention. This manual is to be used only as a guide, keeping in mind that every convention city offers unique opportunities. This manual was adapted from the "Central Ohio Prelims Committee Manual" jointly written by John Sommer and Bob Sommer. Here's where you can download a copy of the Convention Manual in pdf format.

Special Apple-Corps issue of Cider Press now available on-line
Jeff Ulrich has just finished another spectacular edition of the Cider Press, and it's now ready for you to download in PDF format. Download the latest Cider Press here.

Visit the JAD Champs site
Thanks to Mike Sisk, whose persistence finally got the effort under way, and to Tim Speicher, who did the programming, and to Carl J. Cash, III, who contributed time and effort and pictures and names, we now have a segment of the JAD Web site that lists ALL of JAD's past District champs - quartets (regular, senior, and novice), choruses (large and small), and International champs (regular and senior quartets and choruses)! Check out the new JAD Champs Site! Next time you want to visit the site, you'll find a link to it under the District tab on the left-hand menu on every page - it's called JAD Champions.

Want your chapter's show listed in the SingJAD calendar?
If you want to have your chapter's show dates listed on the SingJAD calendar, just drop the Webmaster a note with the chapter name and the dates, as soon as you receive confirmation from the JAD Secretary that your payment has been accepted the date has been cleared. If there's information about the show on your chapter's Web site, please also mention that, and I'll include a link to your site. The JAD Secretary has promised to keep me more up-to-date on show clearances, but I may still only be getting updates in bunches from him. Please, though, don't send me a show notification until after fees have been paid and the date has been cleared by the JAD Secretary!
