Simplified Very Large Quartet (VLQ) Contest Rules
DEFINITION: A Very Large Quartet (VLQ) is a group of not fewer
than 6 nor more than 13 members singing without a director.

Article 1 of the Official SPEBSQSA Contest Rules]
- a. A Very Large Quartet shall consist of no less than 6 nor
more than 13 members.

Society and one or more chapters within the Johnny Appleseed District
-
- c. No member of a VLQ may compete as part of both a Quartet
and a VLQ in the same contest or contest series. A VLQ member MAY elect
to drop out of a VLQ and compete as part of a quartet in any contest or
contest series, but MAY NOT drop out of a quartet to compete in a VLQ when
he competed with a quartet in a contest or contest series where the Quartet
qualified for higher level competition.
-

may not compete again in the Johnny Appleseed District VLQ Contest until
the third year following the year in which it won the championship.
-
- e. A VLQ may not contain more than 50% of the membership of
a previous JAD VLQ Champion.
-
- f. Professional VLQs are not eligible to enter contests. Professional
VLQs are defined as VLQs where the filling of VLQ engagements becomes the
principal vocation of the VLQ's personnel.
Please note: Eligibility is defined simply as a singing group consisting
of at least 6 but not more than 13 members, performing without a director.
No member may compete in both the International Preliminary Quartet Contest
and the VLQ Contest. Persons competing in the Small Chorus Contest may also
compete in the VLQ Contest. A VLQ will sing 2 songs under the same rules
as in any other society contest. There will be no evaluation/coaching sessions
for VLQs.
